How moderation works

This page explains what we check in published student work, who makes the decisions, and what you can do if you think something is wrong.

What we moderate

Reports fall into seven kinds. The kind decides who reviews the report and how quickly.

Who decides

Always a person. An automated check may flag content for review and - for the youngest students only - hold it temporarily until a teacher looks at it. It never removes or hides content by itself. This is not a promise in prose: the database will not allow an automated decision to be anything more than a temporary hold.

How to report

If you have an account, every piece of content carries a Report control. The report reaches the teacher and the administrator.

No account is needed. You can report anonymously from any public project page. We do not store your address.

What happens next

A report opens a case. A moderator takes it, reviews the content, and decides: remove it, warn the author, or dismiss the report. Every action requires a reason and is recorded.

Safety reports are reviewed as a priority. If a case is beyond a teacher's authority it is passed to the organization's administrator, and where necessary to the platform team.

If you disagree

The author of removed content receives the reason and may appeal to their organization's administrator. Removal is reversible - the content is not deleted.

How long we keep records

Cases and the decisions on them are kept for 3 years, so that a decision can be checked later.
